In Fellowship One, ministries are organizational devices used to provide security access and organize activities, jobs, participants and volunteers. Creating a ministry creates a whole new area where activities can be created, volunteers assigned to work those activities, participants can be managed, and attendance can be taken.
Additionally, ministries become security rights as soon as they are added to Fellowship One. When adding new ministries keep in mind that you should also edit security rights for any portal user who needs access to the ministries. You are able to give users Write access to a ministry or Read access. The difference is that those with Write access can change and add new values to the ministry.
Note: If you have a security role for Ministry Read or Ministry Write (all ministries) access, any newly created ministry will not automatically update this role. You must edit the role and add the ministry to the security role. This feature is to ensure that private ministries are not accidentally added to a security role when created.
To add a ministry
Immediately update any security rights or roles that need access to the newly created ministry. See Manage User Security Rights for more information.
If you no longer need a ministry, you can deactivate it. You cannot delete ministries because too many things are tied to a ministry including activity attendance history. When preparing to deactivate a ministry, it's important to double-check that everything about the ministry is inactive. For example, there may be contact items that are being routed to the ministry to be fulfilled. If this is the case, deactivating the ministry makes it impossible for ministry staff to work these contacts. Check any contact form settings in the Admin > Contact Setup options prior to deactivating.
